Sutherland Shire, NSW Resources

This resource is brought to you by Damien McEvoy Plumbing Sutherland Shire.

Sutherland Shire of New South Wales is the site of one of the oldest settlements in Australia, and since the arrival of European settlers in 1770, it’s grown into a thriving location for business and tourism. Damien McEvoy Plumbing Sutherland Shire presents this guide to historic Sutherland Shire and its many resources for the public.

Captain James Cook arrived on Australian shores after he circumnavigated New Zealand. Long used as a gathering place for the native Aborigines, now these verdant beaches became a resting place for his weary crew.

During their stay, however, a seaman called Forbus Sutherland was fatally struck with tuberculosis and buried on the land that would become known as New South Wales. This is how Sutherland Shire got its name.

From its inception, The Shire grew from a small port refuge for sailors into a getaway paradise for European city dwellers. Since this time, Sutherland has blossomed into a modern and fruitful county. Between the beautiful landscapes, vibrant local culture, and hardworking public servants of Sutherland Shire, the county has become a popular destination and an attractive place to put down roots.

The bay provides ready access to incoming freight and travel opportunities; its many ports, such as Port Hacking and the historic Botany Bay, connect Sutherland Shire to New Zealand and the nearby metropolis of Sydney.

Additionally, the area boasts no less than 19 beaches, where activities such as snorkeling, surfing, and swimming are available. Due to these beaches and its many other assets, the entire county is considered to be naturally gorgeous.

Local Businesses and Neighborhoods

Small businesses also flourish in Sutherland Shire, especially in Kurnell, the site of Captain Cook’s initial landing, and in Maroubra. The Milkhouse and it’s street food specials have a strong following with Kurnell locals, and fishing, cricket, and biking are available almost year-round.

In Maroubra, Eksentrik Cafe and the hearty eatery of Herb and Sprout delight the local gourmets. Damien McEvoy Plumbing provides 24-hour service to its customers, including emergency assistance. The many parks and soccer fields in the area provide entertainment, leisure, picnic space, and beautification to the neighborhood.

Public Works

The government of Sutherland Shire continuously upgrades its public works. Currently, the Sutherland Entertainment Center is undergoing radical renovations that will improve on its original design. The many leisure centers, including a water park, provide the citizens with enrichment and entertainment.

Some areas of Sutherland Shire are accessible by foot, but to get from neighborhood to neighborhood and see everything that Sutherland Shire has to offer, you’ll need a lift. The Shire has a train line and a bus line, as well as a ferry system that navigates the many waterways and ports. The Illawarra Railway Line dates back to the 19th century!
